no answer, it's just wrong, find help // Wednesday E-Devotion

I don't have an answer for the horror of Monday's mass killing here in Virginia. It is just wrong. What I do know is that there are many people who need help. That is help that only God can give. We continue to pray for those surrounding this situation and what have been rocked by the insanity.

Psalm 18:2 (nlt) --- The L ord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.

That is not an answer I seek to provide you with or anything other than to tell you where I go when I am at the end of my rope or about to explode. That is God. He is able, He is gracious and He is mine.

Years ago I remember writing that verse on a card and putting it on the dash board of the little car I was driving. Those words from Psalm 18:2 gave me comfort that could come from no one and no where else. It was a wisdom drug and comfort shot. It gave me hope that everything would be OK.

Some people will be questioning and end up in depression. Others will find great help. How can we issue help to those in need?

Psalm 18:18 (nlt) --- They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress, but the L ord supported me.

There aren't enough words, and who knows the right words. That is where God comes in. Rick Warren said "God never wastes a hurt." That means God will use the hurt in your life to assist you in helping some one else. You may not know the right words, but just be there for people. When you are asked to speak, share what God says. Those words last while our words will fade.

Proverbs 18:4 (nlt) --- Wise words are like deep waters; wisdom flows from the wise like a bubbling brook.

Any hope? Yes. Any answers? No. Where do we go from here? We run to God. That is where our strength and safety will be found.

Proverbs 18:10 (nlt) --- The name of the L ord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.

I stood for a moment yesterday at about noon in front of a church building in West Virginia looking at the homes that face the church. There were 6 or 8 homes, but right in the middle and in front of them was a very small stream. I heard it before I saw it. I heard the water and then saw it rushing over a few rocks placed in just the right place. What I heard was something like this ... God is the only one who gives us fresh water and refreshing life. Listen to Him, walk with Him and spend time where His mercy and love refreshes you every day.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
