farwell to a faithful man // Tuesday E-Devotion

As I write to you this day, I am watching the memorial service of Jerry Falwell. You have to see that through this man God brought much to pass and passed on many blessings. Again, it is very true that some people don't care for this man and didn't agree with him. What I have to share with you today is all about legacy.

This was a man of legacy. His vision and his dreams were filled by God because in that last week I have heard from countless people who were either saved by Jesus or called to the ministry under Jerry Falwell's leadership and care.

Job 4:3 (nlt) --- "In the past you have encouraged many people;you have strengthened those who were weak.

Daniel 10:19 (nlt) --- "Don't be afraid," he said, "for you are very precious to God. Peace! Be encouraged! Be strong!"As he spoke these words to me, I suddenly felt stronger and said to him, "Please speak to me, my lord, for you have strengthened me."

Please understand that those people who speak highly of this man and the countless hundreds and thousands of people who have been changed by his ministry will continue to encourage others to look toward God. There will be ministers and servants around the world who make a difference in this world because of a dream fulfilled and vision of a God-sized proportions. God touched that vision and continues to do so.

We need to learn about giving our lives away, learn about putting ourselves on the line so others will know Jesus. There is more to life than living for what we can get or what we feel good about it. In fact, if our feelings and desires don't match what God cares about, we are going in the wrong direction.

Philippians 2:3-5 (nlt) --- Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

Honor those who have invested in your life by investing in others. I believe that Jerry Falwell did just that. Jesus invested and gave to me. What can I do so that someone else will see Jesus as I have?

Franklin Graham said, "Did you agree with Jerry Falwell? Every time he opened the Bible, I agreed with Jerry Falwell."

Remember what makes a difference. Not what you think, not human opinion...God is who and what makes a difference.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
