home owner? // Wednesday E-Devotion

We are in the process of doing something for the very first time. That is....buying a home. It is a simple place that will meet the needs of our family in grand form. The house is only minutes from the church, which is a real plus, and has some extras and stuff that my wife and I are excited about. So excited that I couldn't sleep last night. Do you believe that?

This is the biggest purchase we have ever made. It is a tough decision that we have thought about for a while. For years we have lived in homes owned by others (by churches, landlords, friends, family but mostly churches). I cannot wait for the feel of having something that is our own (until I have to fix something myself...now, that is a scary thought).

Psalm 37:23 (nlt) --- The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.

Proverbs 20:24 (nlt) --- The Lord directs our steps,so why try to understand everything along the way?

Last week at this time I was pretty bummed out and down right mad. That was due to the fact that we were high bidder and won an auction on a house, what we thought was the right house. Now we know the rest of the story.

God's plan is perfect. This is a better location (safe for the family and enough room to stretch out and play). This has more to offer (more room inside). It needs a couple things done (which will make it more like ours). It is a much, much better price. God's plan is perfect.

No, we haven't crossed all the bridges as of yet. There are still some items that need to take place in the next few hours and days, but I see the writing on the wall and the way of the Lord.

Here are some of the things I often hear God say (but don't want to listen to...can you relate?):

Psalm 27:14 (nlt) --- Wait patiently for the Lord.Be brave and courageous.Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

Proverbs 16:32 (nlt) --- Better to be patient than powerful;better to have self-control than to conquer a city.

James 1:4 (nlt) --- So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

James 1:17 (nlt) --- Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

Thank you, God, for making my path end in the right place. I confess that I push too hard and swerve off the road many times looking for what is best when all I really needed to do was let you lead and let you work your plan for my best. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
