# 10 on the Top 10 List of Scripture // Monday E-Devotion

Years ago I shared an idea with a gentleman that has been a big hit. You know the guy, David Letterman, and the idea was his Top 10 List that has taken the nation by storm the last few years...Just kidding. It was not my idea, but I am not too good that I wouldn't steal the idea myself. So, here we go.

In the next 10 days I will share with you a "Top 10 List of Scripture". These are NOT my top 10 favorites, but what I do think is that these are 10 verses we, Christians, should know, share and hold on to with everything we are. They will change lives, ours and others. They will give us the truth of God and get us on the right track when we jump tracks.

# 10 on the Top 10 List of scripture

Hebrews 1:3 (nlt)
The Son radiates God's own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.

Mirror image. That is what Jesus is. He is all God and all man at the same time, and what Jesus did when He came to earth was what God called Him and told Him to do. He was and is the radiance or mirror image of God the Father.

Look at the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and listen to what Jesus says about His relationship to God the Father. "I do nothing on my own." "I must spend time with the Father." "If you have seen Me, you've seen the Father." Got a pretty good idea of who this Jesus dude is?

Jesus is God. That's it.

Takes away sin.

Gives light and life.

Takes care of us even when we don't admit it.

I am still reading Margaret Feinberg's The Organic God. Here is an awesome quote about knowing God and knowing His book:

"I decided once again to read the book that God gave me. Your probably have a copy too. Usually when I give a book to someone, I want to build a relationship - to develop conversation, share ideas, and grow together. The gift of a book is a tangible effort to take the relationship to a new intensity - so it becomes deeper, richer, broader than ever before." (page 21)

This Top 10 List of Scripture is intended to get us reading His book and hearing His thoughts. That's my commitment to you in the next 10 days. Like or not...and I hope you love it!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
