Father's Day // Friday E-Devotion

Oh, I remember the day like it was yesterday. Just after that event took place I remember that I was blubbering like never before. I cried so hard that my mom thought something dreadful and deadly had taken place. But it was just the birth of our first child (over 10 years ago).

Father's day has taken on new meaning for me in the last decade. 3 precious kids and lots of fun have made this dad proud of my kids, commitment to their growth and protection and so thankful to God.

Also, my own dad has increased in the wisdom area in huge ways. Ok, I admit it. Ol' rattlesnake (dad's own nickname for himself from his initials R.S.) has been smart all the time. I just didn't realize it. Want to fight? I have the best dad in the world. No, I will not tell you all he has done, but I will say that this giant of a dude has supported his preacher son and kept my feet to the fire in huge ways. I really enjoy the calls, hate the confrontation, but I know that God is using my father to let me know more about my heavenly Father.

Happy Father's Day, Rattlesnake!

God has some things to say about dads:

Exodus 20:12 (nlt) --- Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

Proverbs 4:1 (nlt) --- My children, listen when your father corrects you.Pay attention and learn good judgment,

Ephesians 6:4 (nlt) --- Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.

Proverbs 22:6 (nlt) --- Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.

Deuteronomy 11:19 (nlt) --- Teach them (the things of God) to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.

2 things:

Dad, thanks for me a great Father. I admire and appreciate you greatly, and I honestly see and hear God in and through you. That's good, and that's an example me and my brothers need! I love you and HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

Men, we have a job to do, and it is not for faint hearted, weakling sissies. This is a job for men who love their families and love God. We have to let them see God in who we are and in what we do. That's a huge deal!

Happy Father's day is each of you, especially those letting God into your lives. Live on!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
