good company, partners in what we do // Tuesday E-Devotion

2 Corinthians 6:1 (nlt) --- As God's partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God's kindness and then ignore it.

As I walked to the ball field this last Saturday, I began to talk with one of our men. This guy is a great dude who has dealt with some pain and heart ache and shown that God is faithful. His heart is full, and what I am more excited about is the fact that he said he can share his faith with passion and clarity. That was an awesome conversation.

Not too many minutes later this guy introduced me to a local pastor. This new pastor friend has a huge heart and calling from God. Then I learned that there are even more people in our community that have the same call we have from God ... to be relevant and fresh in winning our community to Jesus. I was encouraged, excited and am now almost ready to jump out of my skin. This man is the real deal, and his church is going to be one of our partners in some way.

We need each other. Through the years I have learned that partners make a big difference. We have to find ourselves in need of like minded friends. These people touch my life, keep me going and kick me in the pants when I need it. That's a good thing.

Proverbs 27:17 (nlt) --- As iron sharpens iron,so a friend sharpens a friend.

Jude 1:20 (nlt) --- But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit,

Find yourself in good company. Let these people speak to you, and let them into your life. They are more than friends. They are partners. Listen up. They are gifts from God. Never does God attend for us to be 'lone rangers' and alone. We're in this thing together. That's a good thing.

Who are your partners in what you do? Who are you around?

Answering those questions tells me about the influence you are going to have. Just a side note about my commitment ... I want partners who are passionate about Jesus and confident of own call from God. That's a big deal, and I thank God for good company and partners in what we do!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
