gotta pray // Thursday E-Devotion

Don't you love to hear that?

"I am praying for you." It may come in an e-mail or in a phone call or from a conversation when someone says, "I've been praying for you." Sometimes I don't think I would make it without someone praying for me.

James 5:16 (nlt) --- Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

I remember walking down the hallway of a house where I rented a room years ago and hearing Mrs. Cornelia Fowler praying for me. I remember hearing Harry Thompson pray for me. I remember when Pastor Grady Roan held my shoulder and prayed for me.

From time to time I get a note from mom or my dad ... 'I am praying for you' it reads.

There are too many people to name that lift my family and my life to Jesus. Thank you for praying for me.

Colossians 4:2 (nlt) --- Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.

I remember kneeling at the pew where Dr. Bobbi was sitting praying for her mom who was very sick. I remember talking to a dear pastor friend who was hurting terribly and praying for him. I remember holding Talmadge's hand just after he had a heart attack and praying with him as he accepted Jesus as his savior.

Prayer is a big deal.

Each day I send you some requests. You may not know them. You may have other requests. The fact is our prayer lives need life and need to be real. It is not a routine. It is not something you check off your to-do list. It is not something that makes you a better Christian. Prayer is a simple aspect of our relationship with Jesus.

God's kids just have to pray.

Ephesians 1:18 (nlt) --- I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

Allen Asbury with his song "Somebody's Praying Me Through" touched my heart...

Pressing over me like a big blue sky
I know someone has me on their heart tonight
That's why I know it's gonna be alright
'Cause somebody's praying me through
Somebody's praying me through
It may be my Mother, it might be my Dad
Or an old friend I've forgot I had
But whoever it is I'm so glad that
Somebody's praying me through
Somebody's praying me through
Through the tears, through the rain
Through the sorrow, through the pain
It keeps bringing me through
Over and over again
So when you're drowning in a sea of hurt
And it feels like life couldn't get any worse
Thats a blessing waiting to push back the curse
'Cause somebody's praying you through
Somebody's praying you through
Someone got down on their knees and prayed for me
Somebody's, somebody's praying you through

Pray for Nancy as she recovers from surgery tonight and needs great healing.
Pray for David as he is in Africa and his wife, Tammy, and their boys are here and expecting their third little boy.
Pray for the family who lost their 1 year old that died in our county Tuesday.
Pray for my buddy David's supervisor at work who is lost and needs Jesus.
Please pray for my family as we hope to close next week on the purchase of our first home.
Pray for our father's day event at The Community Fellowship as we desire to touch lives for Jesus.
Praise the Lord for the prayer warriors in my life and in yours. Be someone's prayer warrior today! Stop and pray for someone.

Finally, one of my 'pet-peeves' is for someone to say "I will pray" but doesn't. That just doesn't cut it. Stop. Pray. Make a difference in a life.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
