stress & struggles // Tuesday E-Devotion

Proverbs 16:20 (nlt) --- Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the Lord will be joyful.

There is something about people who trust God. They look at things differently. They get through the struggles and deal with stresses in different ways than you average guy or girl off the street. Why is that?

As I get older, as some of you know, I tend to be a bit more laid back, worry about less stuff and am able to trust God. Satan throws in his 2 cents from time to time making me think that I just don't care or I am not driven enough or that I am a failure. Just a little reminder for him and others today ... I care because God cares big time, I am driven because I called by God with lots of vision and I am successful BECUASE I trust God.

Confident or arogant? Oh well, trusting God is not arogance. It is faith.

Can you imagine defying your dad who has lots of power because of your faith? Jonathan did that in serving David.

Can you imagine disobeying a law to save your kid and let God have the kid? Moses' mom did that.

Can you imagine firing members of your army taking it from thousands to just 300 to take on another huge army? Gideon did and God rocked his faith along the way.

How we deal with the stress and struggles of life may not get us in trouble with the law or take us into combat, but it will give us strength for every day and purpose to live. Purpose has got to come from God and no where else.

What are you trusting in? What are you doing with stress and struggles?

Psalm 20:7 (nlt) --- Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.

Proverbs 3:5 (msg) --- Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track. Don't assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
