real wisdom // Wendesday E-Devotion

"Scripture breathes wisdom like we breathe oxygen. It can't not. Through Scripture, God reveals Himself. The wisdom cannot be captured, let alone contained, on a neon bumper sticker or rubber bracelet. Wisdom itself invites us to go deeper - right into a relationship with God himself." --- Margaret Feinberg in The Organic God page 78

Leadership books. Cool, innovative pastors. And more.

I am always encouraged by people who get it. They have taken a skill, a gift, an idea and shoved it to the next level. Could be a business like one I watched on The Big Idea that started with $78 worth of product but is now grossing 100's of millions of dollars only a couple years later. It is always the church that started just a few years back but it make a huge difference, maybe with lots of people but with so much more as well. People who get wisdom need to be heard.

That is why Proverbs continues to be part of my daily routine. Every time I go there, I get something. I may have read the verse 100 times, but God shows up and hits my heart, my leadership desire, being a dad or husband or in countless areas of life I find help.

In God's wisdom we are invited, as Feinberg wrote, into a relationship with God. To know Him. To love Him and listen to Him. His wisdom changes us and charges us to move forward, to step up, to lead with courage and to live with integrity. Sounds like great business principles and leadership skills to me. What do you think?

Proverbs 3:18 (nlt) --- Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her;happy are those who hold her tightly.

Proverbs 4:7 (nlt) --- Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do!And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.

Colossians 2:3 (nlt) --- In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Real wisdom comes from God. You can get it from great authors and business people who don't know our God, but their wisdom, the core and heart of it, came from God first. Think about. Real wisdom lasts.

I so very much agree with you. Real wisdom does come only from God. I didn't find God until I was 46 years old. Prior to that I was an atheist. In roughly the first 100 days my long held opinions on lots and lots of things did an 180° turn about. Looking back I can still see the tattered remnants of my old arguments and opinions hanging in my mind, all gone. . . swept away.

I enjoy your blog.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
