share life // Friday E-Devotion

John 10:10 (nlt) --- The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life .

For several years my wife and I have been supporting Life Outreach, the ministry of James and Betty Robison. They have been and their TV show, Life Today, has been a great encouragement to us. Yesterday on the show James made a comment that hit home with me. He said something like, "To really live life, you have to share life with someone else."

For the Robisons this is reality as they seek to give many things including fresh water to people where the need is great. Look at our church's key verse, listed above, to understand how God wants to give us life.

Look at that saying again... to really live life, you have to share life with someone else.

Far too often people try to do things and live their own way and on their own terms. Living life with others gets complications. Relationships are tough. It may seem easier to withdraw from sharing life or to not be real with others.

That couldn't be further from the truth. Life is meant to be lived together.

Rick Warren shared in his book The Purpose Driven Life that God created us to have fellowship with Him and fellowship with others as well.

Fellowship doesn't mean we are to just put up with others. It does not mean we share some things with other people. It does mean we live life together. Think about it. How empty would your life be without your family or friends? God wants to fill our lives. Satan wants to rip things away from us.

So how do we go about sharing real life?

Ephesians 4:32 (nlt) --- Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Galatians 6:2 (nlt) --- Share each other's burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.

James 5:16 (nlt) --- Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

Hebrews 10:25 (nlt) --- And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 (nlt) --- So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

You get the point, I am sure. God wants us to know Him and spend time with Him. He wants us to share life with others, too.

Thanks for that bit thought, God... to really life life, you have to share life with someone else.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
