think about change // Wednesday E-Devotion

NOTE --- I have just begun getting a very short daily devotion that has been extremely good. It is from the people who put out the New Living Translation and can be found here. Click on devotional sign up. Thanks!

Galatians 18:27 --- What is impossible from a human perspective is possible with God.

This hits me where I need it so often. What do I try or you try to do alone? With God on the outside. I mean, I don't intend to leave God out. It just happens. I'm busy. Everything seems fine. Fact is, with God inside and in the mix stuff gets done faster, better and with great results.

I found it again ... guess where ... in Proverbs this morning. Here are a few nuggets from Proverbs 23:

10-11 Don't cheat your neighbor by moving the ancient boundary markers; don't take the land of defenseless orphans. For their Redeemer is strong; he himself will bring their charges against you.

13-14 Don't fail to discipline your children. They won't die if you spank them. Physical discipline may well save them from death.

Change happens. Whether we like it or not, change is going to happen. We may not be ready. It may cost us a lot. Get ready, change is coming for you and me on so many fields and in so many ways.

The two thoughts above give us a clear path for change. Yet they seem to reek of tradition. Why is that? How do we get around them?

Learn from the past, that is the 'ancient boundary markers' God is talking about. He has taught us, but we go right back to the place and way we where before learning. Then discipline happens. Have you been there?

I love the fact that God mentions 'orphans' and their 'Redeemer' because our church, and I hope yours, is looking for spiritual orphans that need our Father God. That's right. God is a Father, and this Father loves to love on His kids and see them doing good and great things. He protects His own, but He also disciplines them.

This past Sunday I told our people that God tells us to 'beat the devil out of our kids' (hang with me). By not spanking we may allow the little ones to go in the wrong direction and end up in the wrong place. God says that discipline may save them from death, physical and spiritual. Do you get it?

Some things have to change. At church is about doing anything we can to reach people for Jesus. Therefore, our methods HAVE TO CHANGE. BUT, the message of Jesus NEVER CHANGES. He is is still right all the time. His wisdom is still the best advise to live on and to give to others. Take a look at the boundaries that have been set. Learn from them and lead others to see how God has changed us and give us His best.

Proverbs 20:7 (nlt) --- The godly walk with integrity;blessed are their children who follow them.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
