the after party // Monday E-Devotion

2 Corinthians 8:1  (nlt) --- Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, what God in his kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia.

Yesterday was a huge celebration at The Community Fellowship with lots of friends, family and visitors.  As I looked around and saw new faces and some old friends, I had a thought that we need to talk about as Christians.  The party doesn't end.

Do you remember the after parties after the prom or other special events?  They were awesome because friends got together and really kicked off new stuff.  That is what we did yesterday.  We were getting ready for the party and work to continue.  God is not done with us.  Think about it.

There are still lost people around us.  There are people with needs.  There are situations that we can help with, and we can make a difference for a long, long time.  This pastor's commitment is just that.  I want to make a difference.

So, let me invite you to the after party.  Whether it is through worship, Bible study, fellowship, work, cleaning or anything, God has some plans for us.  It is time, once again, to see God and to see His work.  And get busy!

1 Chronicles 16:37  (nlt) --- David arranged for Asaph and his fellow Levites to serve regularly before the Ark of the Lord's Covenant, doing whatever needed to be done each day.

Matthew 9:38  (nlt) ---So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.

Nehemiah 2:18  (nlt) --- Then I told them about how the gracious hand of God had been on me, and about my conversation with the king. They replied at once, "Yes, let's rebuild the wall!" So they began the good work.

I love the story of Nehemiah and how God led him and the people around him (this Sunday we are going to watch God work in that story again).  Even though the city was a wreck, God wasn't done.  Remember this: people often miss God because they think something is impossible.

Mark 10:27  (nlt) --- Jesus looked at them intently and said, "Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.

The Community Fellowship is here because God made it possible, and the work is getting done, lives are being changes because everything is possible with God!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
