being creative // Tuesday E-Devotion

I shared a leadership lesson with our team last night that is big time on my heart.  No, it is not new (I even stole some parts from people smarter than me), but what I do know is that God wants His church to be rockin' good at what it does.  That means we have to go to work.

Being creative comes easy for some but not for others.  It takes hard work to not do the same old thing the same old way.  You know what you get when you do the same thing over and over?  You get the same results (thanks band director dude).

At The Community Fellowship we are founded on 2 principles that work well and drive us hard.  They are: The church is to be the most creative institution on earth because we have the greatest message to share, and We are to get the attention of our community and while we have their attention, tell them about Jesus.

It is time to celebrate the differences in our churches (thanks Mark Batterson) because God is using all of us for the same goal (telling the lost about Jesus and encouraging the saved) but allowing us to use different methods.  God called us all, but He has led us to be creative.  That is what we are committed to at the Community.  I am excited about it all over again.

Far too many churches and Christians see the differences in other churches and mock them.  It is time to take a second look and celebrate the differences.  We are here to work together for the same goal.  Listen up.  We are going to be different.  That means we are going to be creative.  And yes, a tailgate party for your anniversary may sound crazy and different, but it worked big time.  We have touched lives we would never have touched.  God did.  He did good!

Jesus is a great example of the unexpected and the different.  The people around Him didn't too much care for His methods, but looks to me like He did a pretty good job with what God sent Him to do.  How are you doing?  How is your church doing?

It is time to be creative!

John 1:4  (nlt) --- The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.

Jesus started the process.

John 10:10  (nlt) --- A thief comes only to rob, kill, and destroy. I came so that everyone would have life, and have it in its fullest.

1 Corinthians 9:22  (nlt) --- When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.

We keep it going.  Being creative is awesome and God uses us to lead others to know Him.  Sounds like a plan....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
