the big "mo" // Wednesday E-Devotion

momentum: In physics, the property or tendency of a moving object to continue moving. For an object moving in a line, the momentum is the mass of the object multiplied by its velocity (linear momentum); thus, a slowly moving, very massive body and a rapidly moving, light body can have the same momentum. (See Newton's laws of motion.)

Ok.  This is not a physics lesson at all.  What it is is a commentary on what makes Christians do what they are supposed to do and how we see God working.  Does that make sense?

This past weekend The Community Fellowship celebrated our 1st anniversary with a huge tailgate party.  It was awesome.  Lots of people.  Great food.  Good worship and more.  Many of our people returned our "what say you" survey, and the results were right on.

Philippians 3:14  (nlt) --- I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

Luke 19:6  (nlt) --- Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy.

Momentum is what drives you forward.  In racing is the impact of the wreck because of the rate of the speed the car was going.  It is also the rate at which people get excited and become part of something that is moving on.  The church is moving forward in big ways.  It is the big "mo" that we need to understand and see.

It is kind of like riding a wave (even though I have never surfed anything other than TV or the Internet).  God has pressed us forward, given us great blessings, and the momentum is real and making a huge impact on us and our community.

Will you join the big "mo"?  We are rolling on with gusto.  We are riding and having a ball.  We are following God and all the God-sized stuff He is doing.

The results of the survey I spoke of tell us that people are getting it.  They are getting what God has given, what we have talked about and what we are doing.  The vision is being caught and passed on.  Momentum continues to build.  It is awesome.

Colossians 3:2  (nlt) --- Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

Ephesians 3:20  (nlt) --- Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

Being part of what God is doing is like nothing else in all the world.  Don't miss it.  This Sunday we are going to talk much about the big "mo" and what God has placed in front of us!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
