catalyst of change // Thursday E-Devotion

Acts 11:26  (nlt) --- When he found him, he brought him back to Antioch. Both of them stayed there with the church for a full year, teaching large crowds of people. (It was at Antioch that the believers were first called Christians.)

Something new.  A revolution.  Motivation.  Power.  Vision.  Change.

No, this is not when Jesus hit the ground running, but it was when the church was already in full swing.  The people who were Jesus followers began to get a name for themselves.  Christian.

What does it mean?  Why were they called that?  Check for yourself.

For years I have understood this term to be one of respect and honor.  It means to be a little Christ or to be part of His movement or family.  Yet at Anitoch this was a slam, a slur and meant to mock the people who were following Jesus.

Understand what I getting at.  Jesus came to earth to start something new.  He didn't come to do away with the old (the Law God gave).  Jesus came to fulfill that old part.  That is just was Jesus did.  God gave His son the place of pivotal change in the universe.  His place was that of Savior and catalyst of change.

Friends, people who will follow Jesus choose to be a catalyst of change.  Whatever it costs.  The people at Anitoch and of history have paid a high price.

Some died for their faith.  Others hid or ran.  All have taken steps of faith to see culture change.  No, not the culture of rich or poor, intelligent or ignorant.  It is the culture of purpose.  God have given us purpose to live.

Lets talk about making a mark on the world around us.  Jesus left His DNA for those who wish to be saved.  Offered to all.  Why we live.  What mark are we living, self or Savior.  Purpose or pity.  Passion or passive.

I believe that the church exist to be a catalyst of change in our world.  The choice is ours.

But remember, they had to pay a price.  Loosing their pride.  Loosing their lives.  Living for Jesus.  All or nothing.

Colossians 4:5  (nlt) --- Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity.

How do people speak of you?  How will you be remembered?  I choose to be a catalyst of change for Jesus.

Acts 15:26  (nlt) --- who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ .

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
