God loves you, man // Tuesday E-Devotion

You've been there.  It is when love fills your heart and mind and even your eyes.  You are overcome with a sense that God loves you and a desire to show and give that love to others.

Maybe you saw this in a person or in a scene from creation.  Where I find that I am overcome the most is with people who need love.  For me: it was a little kid in my son's preschool class yesterday, it was a sweet lady at the race track who couldn't walk but was bubbling over with life, it was hearing the words of a grieving wife, it was in the quiet moment of reading my Bible, it was in listening to one of my children breathe the other night while they were sleeping, it was in seeing God give me something that I thought I did not deserve...All of that happened in the last week.

Have we lost the sense of God's love?  Have we stopped loving others or worse stopped loving God?

Nehemiah 9:17  (nlt) --- They refused to obey and did not remember the miracles you had done for them. Instead, they became stubborn and appointed a leader to take them back to their slavery in Egypt! But you are a God of forgiveness, gracious and merciful, slow to become angry, and rich in unfailing love. You did not abandon them,

Mercy Me's song " The Love of God" says this:

The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell
It goes beyond the highest star
And reaches to the lowest hell
The guilty pair, bowed down with care
God gave His Son to win
His erring child He reconciled
And pardoned from his sin

Could we with ink the ocean fill
And were the skies of parchment made
Were every stalk on earth a quill
And every man a scribe by trade

To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry
Nor could the scroll contain the whole
Though stretched from sky to sky
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure
The saints' and angels' song

God's love will change us, if we let it.  Let it.

Deuteronomy 30:6   (nlt) --- The Lord your God will change your heart and the hearts of all your descendants, so that you will love him with all your heart and soul and so you may live!

Finally, here are some verses I need to hear (and you need, too).  I love hearing a friend last night on the phone and someone I didn't even know at the race track say, "God loves you, man!"

Joshua 23:11  (nlt) --- So be very careful to love the Lord your God.

Psalm 36:7  (nlt) --- How precious is your unfailing love, O God!  All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings.

1 John 4:10  (nlt) --- This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
