Pray for a Friend // Thursday E-Devotion

Several years ago I was convicted by God and convinced that I needed to change the way I pray for people, and this change has spread to the way I do ministry and lead others to do ministry.

Far too often Christians say "I'm praying for you", and that becomes empty words.  Nice thing to say with no action whatsoever.  What did I do?  I began to pray for people on the spot.  Take their hand.  Grab their shoulder, and stand right there or on the phone and pray.  This makes a difference.

Right now I have several friends who are in need of God showing up and working.  Here are some ways we are to pray for others:

James 5:16  (nlt) --- Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

1 Thessalonians 3:10  (nlt) --- Night and day we pray earnestly for you, asking God to let us see you again to fill the gaps in your faith.

2 Thessalonians 1:11  (nlt) --- So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do.

Colossians 1:11  (nlt) --- We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy,

Romans 15:13  (nlt) --- I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Gang, there are so many more verses like those that call us to pray for others and give us what to pray.  Remember that in John 17 Jesus prayed for us and in Ephesians Paul showed us how to pray for others.  Just do it.

Pray for a friend.  Pray for others.  It will make a huge difference for others AND in how you look at things.  It will also remind each of us to let God work.  Life is all about Him.

Below is a list of stuff I am praying for and a verse that gets me going as far as leadership.  Pray and be blessed!

Finally:
PRAYER
Eddie Moore, manager of grocery store near our church, had a heart attack yesterday, and the assistant manager, Steve, that I have been working on.
Amber McDaniel as she will give birth to twin boys any day and her parents, Rick and Deanna Turnham, as they try to sell their home and move to Texas.
A friend and their marriage.
Brenda and Greg Fields and their home in the wake of the fires in California.
Shanta Carter who is battling lukemia.
_______________ (fill in the blank).
Lord, put someone or some people in our day who we will stop and pray for today.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
