Time Flies // Monday E-Devotion

Colossians 4:5 (nlt) --- Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity.

Seems like yesterday that we were celebrating Christmas or bringing in the new year of 2007.  Thanksgiving is here already.  We are gearing up for some pretty cool celebration as a church and as a family.  How about you?

Just had another birthday.  I swear, they seem to get closer together, but what I do know is that I seem to have less and less time.  That means we have to make adjustments to get stuff done and make sure that our time and what we have is used wisely.  Does that make sense?  Time flies but opportunities pass us by as well.  Tell people you love them.  Tell people about Jesus.  Use what you have before it is all gone.

1 Timothy 1:4 (nlt) --- Don't let them waste their time in endless discussion of myths and spiritual pedigrees. These things only lead to meaningless speculations, which don't help people live a life of faith in God.

I often remind The Community Fellowship family that we are to impact our culture for Christ, yet that impact doesn't come if we wait until tomorrow or until we have time.  It has to happen in strategy and in follow through.  Lets make sure that our ministry and efforts don't get wasted but use them to the max for Jesus!

Recently I have heard a song by Point of Grace that I want to leave you with....it is about making the most of our time:

(Part of POG's song "How You Live")

So go to the ballgames and go to the ballet
And go see your folks more than just on the holidays
Kiss all your children, dance with your wife
Tell your husband you love him every night

Don't run from the truth 'cause you can't get away, no
Face it and you'll be okay

(Chorus)
Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances and let it all out
'Cause you won't regret it
Looking back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

Oh, wherever you are and wherever you've been
Now is the time to begin
So give to the needy, and pray for the grieving
Even when you don't think that you can
'Cause all that you do is bound to come back to you
So think of your fellow man
And make peace with God, and make peace with yourself
'Cause in the end, there's nobody else

PRAYER
Praise the Lord that Joan Norman and Virginia Wood's tests came back fine!  Pray for Dorothy Kasey, Russ' mom, who has been diagnosed with Leukemia.  April Haynes, one of our church leaders, continues to have some sickness.  Pray for families who will be ministered to this week through various outreaches in our area and yours.

E-DEVOTIONS are sent on week days from Michael Harrison, lead Pastor of The Community Fellowship in Collinsville, Virginia.  E-devotions are intended to encourage your faith in Jesus and your walk with Him.  To subscribe, cancel or change your subscription, send an e-mail to Michael at mharrison@thecommunityfellowship.org .

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
