a GOD thang :: Wednesday E-Devotion

Some of our team is gearing up to go to a leadership conference, and I am excited about it.  Last year I went by myself.  This year there are 9 of us.  Traveling 4 and 1/2 hours one way to spend the day listening and soaking up God stuff.  This is a GOD thang, to say the least.

What is it?  It is UNLEASH 08 hosted by Perry Noble in Anderson, South Carolina.  NewSpring Church has been around about 10 years and has seen God do some incredible things.  We will learn from the team NewSpring along with 1,700 people that will be at the conference.  By the way, I think that Perry is one of the most gifted communicators and leaders of our day.  But he doesn't have a seminary degree, and sometimes looks a little like he is stuck in the 80's (who am I to talk).  But this guy gets my Jesus lovin', God servin', leadership desire going.  Check out his blog some time: www.perrynoble.com

How do I know this is a God thang?  Satan is on our heals.  He is trying to discourage us, tempts us, distract us and do anything to get our eyes off of God.  Did you know that when you choose to follow Jesus that you become a target of Satan?  That is the facts.  Think about it.  When you seek to do GOD thangs, Satan gets ticked off, and he heads after you.  What ya gonna do?

1 Peter 5:8 (nlt) --- Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

Ephesians 6:11 (nlt) --- Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.

And my favorite....

John 10:10 (nlt) --- The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

Just remember, when God is at work in your life....when you are following God, Satan is on your trail.  Don't let him win.  Don't let him discourage and distract you.  Cause God has HUGE plans for you and is about to do something ... a GOD thang.

NOTE: pray for our team at we are at UNLEASH 08.  There will not be a devotion on Thursday for that reason.  Be blessed!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
