We're Gonna have some Easter Fun :: Wednesday E-Devotion

Stop and think is a video that talks about life and puts God in our view, and it invites people to get to know Jesus.  (Pastor Frances Chan in the video is a great dude.)

Joshua 24:15 (nlt) --- But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord."

Easter bunnies and candy eggs.  The cross and the death of Jesus.  Seems like we have a choice.  We can either have fun or be somber.  We can eat candy or crawl in some Christian hole.  That couldn't be further from the truth.  No, I am not telling you to leave the Easter bunny out of your weekend.  I want to remind us that Easter is about Jesus.  Choose who you are gonna serve.

My thinking along those lines, I have asked The Community Fellowship church family to think of ways, creative way to invite people to church.  One survey about church attendance and Easter says that 82% of people personally invited to an Easter experience will attend.  Those are amazing numbers.  How are we gonna give people Jesus?  Is that our calling?

I don't believe at all that we as Christians are called to Christianize the world.  I believe we are called to create culture around us where Jesus is central and life is awesome and exciting.  That's not easy.  But it is a blast.

How are you gonna let people know that your Easter is marked by the facts of what Jesus did for you?  Think about it.  Call them.  Write them a letter or send an e-mail.  Go see a lost friend or speak up in the break room at work.  Just do something that lets people know that you mean business about Jesus.

We're gonna have some Easter fun.  Join in!

At the same time we are going to make sure that people hear about Jesus.  This coming weekend is all about Him.  How will you tell your kids about Jesus among all the egg hunting and candy eating?  How will you mark this holiday out for God's glory at your office or your school and most at your home?  Think about it.  Plan ahead.  Or you won't do it at all.

John 1:16 (nlt) --- From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.

We're gonna have some Easter fun, and one way that is going to happen is that we will be taking other people with us to our celebrations.  Plan ahead and join in the fun!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
