it takes all of us :: Tuesday E-Devotion

Those race teams are huge.  The jack man, gas man, can holder, couple tire changers, over the wall guy, crew chief, chef, team owner, spotter and more.  That's from the race.  Then you move to the fan area where commercial USA is trying to get a piece of the action and they bring in their entire gang.  It takes everyone to get the job done.

As the track I have the honor of transporting fans who have had to go to the hospital at the track.  Those are good God kind of talks as we head back to their car, camper or seat in the stands.  Typically they are with a group of people, and I love watching the family or group care for their sick or injured friend or loved one.  It takes everyone.

Volunteers are the heartbeat of Raceway Ministries and of The Community Fellowship.  It takes all of us to get the job done.  Everyone has a place.  Everyone is important.  Everyone is needed on so many levels.  What excites me most is that we become like a team the more we work and the more heart we put into the work.  God is guiding us in sweet directions because it takes all of us.

The racing scene just draws this picture in such a clear way for me.

Philippians 2:2 (nlt) --- Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

What happens when one member of the team falls or fails?  It hurts the entire team.

1 Corinthians 12:22,26 (nlt) --- In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary ... If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.

As I watch those race teams do their stuff, I am amazed at how good and how fast they can have their driver and car back in the race.  If we will do our part, the same thing will happen at the church and beyond.  We have to do our part.  We have to get involved.  Again, when one person is not in the picture, the entire team suffers.  How can we get more folks to get on the team and take their place in the work?

Hebrews 10:24 (nlt) --- Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.

It takes all of us!

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
