tooth fairy, the Holy Spirit and bald men [+] Monday E-Devotion

What do these three things (tooth fairy, the Holy Spirit and bald men) have in common?  They are the highlights of my weekend (perspective counts for a whole lot).

Before getting in the bed last night, my wife and I had to see that one of our parental obligations was met.  It is the role of tooth fairy.  Bad thing, mama got caught.  Busted.  Yet we accomplished the task.  Our middle child got her dollar bill (by the way, don't let one of your church leaders convince your kids that each tooth is worth $5 or $10 as one of our people did).  I love my kids!!!

Sunday morning kicked off with a bang.  I was and still am excited about what God led me to share.  One of our core values is authenticity, and the series Confessions of a Pastor has taken that to a new level.  As I was preparing for the day, a text message hit my phone from the first 'bald man' (my oldest brother).  He is an awesome encourager in my life.  A bit later I was walking in the front door of The Community building and came across a group of bald men.  They say "Bald is Beautiful".  Guess I will have to personally experience that on my head to know if it is true???  Looking at that group, I see the hand of God.  One was just provided a brand new job.  One recently returned to God and to our church experiencing God's grace.  The other is the best evangelist we have at The Community (plus a darn good tattoo artist as well).

Finally, the Holy Spirit worked on me all weekend (and all last week).  Man, I love it when God gets my attention and works in mighty ways.  Last night I closed out the weekend by sharing at House of Prayer Church (as I have the last three Sundays), and I listened to what God was doing in the lives of those precious people.  The ones I spoke with not only know God, but they are experiencing Him in sweet, sweet ways.  Then, you turn the corner to see how God is putting all this together in my life, in the lives of people all around me, and that God is working in ways we don't even understand.

So, what do the tooth fairy, the Holy Spirit and bald men have in common?  It is the hand of God.  Experience God.  Know that He loves you.  Listen to His voice.  Watch Him work.  Best part: see how all the pieces fit together in His perfect plan for you!!!

Philippians 2:13 (nlt) --- For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

1 Corinthians 15:10 (nlt) --- But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.

Romans 8:28 (nlt) --- And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
