don't just 'get by' [+] Friday E-Devotion

Don't confuse being in your sweet spot with being in your comfort zone.  Because when you're in your sweet spot, there's nothing comfortable about it!  I know this is a little confusing, and definitely counter intuitive.  When I'm in my sweet spot, doing what God has called me to do, God stretches me relentlessly.  But I find that He's challenging me to activate gifts that He's already put inside of me.  I just didn't know they were there. --- quote from Steven Furtick of Elevation Church

We've talked about this before.  Being intentional about how you live and how you lead is a HUGE deal.  Far too many Christians are only living in survival mode....what do I do to just 'get by'? is the question they ask.

How sad!  God never intends for us to just 'get by'.  He has gifted us, called us, and blessed us so that we can thrive, not survive.  All around us are blessings and direction right from the hand of God (we've talked about this much this week).  But doing only enough to just 'get by' leaves you hungry, without energy and not making a difference in the people you are around.

Catch up with me....

2 Timothy 1:7 (nlt) --- For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

John 8:36 (nlt) --- So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (nasb) --- We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,

Joshua 23:6 (nlt) --- So be very careful to follow everything Moses wrote in the Book of Instruction. Do not deviate from it, turning either to the right or to the left.

We have a great group of leaders on our team at The Community Fellowship.  Some changes are coming soon among our ranks as we seek to live in our sweet spot, to be who God has made each of us to be and to do what God has called us to do.  Not easy at all.  But it is right and it frees us to be better prepared to demonstrate the love of God to our community.

It takes effort, big effort to not just 'get by'.  Ask yourself the question.  Look inside yourself.  Don't let yourself and the people you are accountable for suffer because you aren't willing to live in your sweet spot.

Psalm 139:23-24 (nlt) --- Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.  Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

God has called us thrive, to succeed, to influence others, to live in freedom.  That comes with sacrifice and a choice to stop the cycle of only doing enough to just 'get by'.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
