need directions? [+] Wednesday E-Devotion

Proverbs 14:2 (nlt) --- Those who follow the right path fear the Lord; those who take the wrong path despise him.

I love those GPS things.  Some of them even talk to you.  They know right where you are and will tell you right where you need to go.  But sometimes they will get you confused.  First time I used one was with my buddy John in Texas.  Then another friend had one when we visited Vegas earlier this year, and last Julie and our kids used her brother's on a trip they took to see a Reba concert (gotta get me one of those thangs or an iPhone with google maps).

Ever noticed that sometimes you might think you know where you are going but you get lost?  I have even used google maps and gotten lost (no slamming google though).  Knowing the right path and the right road is essential.

Proverbs 16:25 (nlt) --- There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.

John 14:6 (nlt) --- Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me."

(By the way, if that last verse seems narrow minded, it is.  Get it or miss it.  Your choice.)

My favorite poem of all time if Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken" where he talks about a choice he has to make, and his choice leads him to a huge difference in his life.  Think about it.

How many choices do we have to make?  Hundreds if not thousands.  Too often we stand at the fork in the road questioning, thinking and watching for a long time.  I am NOT saying that we shouldn't stop, think and pray.  But what I am saying is that living by faith means you make the best choice, the God choice and step forward.  The choice may seem irrational or even wrong to people around you.  Realize faith to a godless world is wrong to those in the world but is refreshing and directing to people who have faith.

One of our church leaders (one who will begin blogging before long) shared with me this morning in a conversation that we often have to step out on the shaky limb, and the key to staying on and staying strong is not looking down.  I add...and don't look back.

Need directions?  Ask God.  Then step forward.  Make a choice.  Live by faith.  The results are going to be awesome.  As a leader I so want to live by faith and to lead others to do the same.  Yes, risk is involved.  It is worth the risk.  Faith is awesome and risky.  Give it a try, maybe even a test.  See what God will do when you need directions.

Matthew 7:14 (nlt) --- But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

Romans 1:17 (nlt) --- This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, "It is through faith that a righteous person has life."

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
