BELIEVE GOD --- one prayer [+] Thursday E-Devotion

"A church that is dangerous believes that the best is yet to come." --- Perry Noble from his One Prayer sermon, Lord, Make Us Dangerous

That is The Community Fellowship. We live with a sense of aniticipation of what God is going to do. We believe that God is able to do so much more than we have seen or experienced. What is most exciting for me is that there are many people who stand like I do ready and expecting God....it is an awesome place to be.

Kind of strange because lots of the places I have served before and lots of Christians I know didn't and don't have this sense that God is at work. I would almost loathe my work or the happenings. I am excited, and I believe God. Do you?

Galatians 3:6 (nlt) --- In the same way, "Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith."

Jonah 3:5 (nlt) --- The people of Nineveh believed God's message, and from the greatest to the least, they declared a fast and put on burlap to show their sorrow.

We cannot just say we believe God or just go to church and think that we are expecting God to work. Far too many Christians, many of us included, do not expect God to do anything out of the ordinary. Just maybe that is why the church seems so powerless and why the world says that God is not something they need. This has to change! Why is it true?

Isaiah 29:13 (nlt) --- And so the Lord says,"These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote.

What happens when people believe God? He works. He works in big ways. It is time to believe God. Believe what He says. Believe what He has done, and believe that the best is coming. Believe that He can and will heal. Believe you are forgiven and changed and act like it! Believe God. That will make a big difference in the world knowing God is real.

Hebrews 11:6 (nlt) --- And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.

God, make us a people of faith that believe you each day and in each step. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
