friends, partners and precious people [+] Wednesday E-Devotion

I love mission trips. One of the tough things is being away from family and work when there are things to do, people who have needs and the like. Yet I love interacting with great people.
The pastor of SonRise Church here in Spartanburg, South Carolina is a great fellow. An encourager. A great leader. A kind friend. We need to build more people like David Moore. Julie whispered to me last night that I am alot like this pastor. That is a compliment.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 (nasb) --- Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.
Got a note from one of Community family yesterday about a pastor that had a wreck on a dirt bike during their worship service. This lady was affraid I would try that. I appreciate the sentiment, and I will try to be careful with all I do. My momma would hurt me if I tried that.
Another sweet point of the mission trip is the people we rub shoulders with. Our own people that we rarely spend time with. We have a great team with us. Some are new to The Community. Others are friends of Community family. Some have been on lots of our trips. Makes for a great team. You also get to see people in the rariest of times and at their best (or maybe their worst).
As you may already know about me, I believe that God has called us to be family. To live and worship together. That is much more than just going to church together. The people in the book of Acts shared meals, helped each others and so much more all the time! We need to be that and do that often, even daily.
Think what real friends and partners are like. They are precious people.
Proverbs 11:30 (nlt) --- The seeds of good deeds become a tree of life; a wise person wins friends.
Proverbs 17:17 (nlt) --- A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need.
Proverbs 27:17 (nlt) --- As iron sharpens iron,so a friend sharpens a friend.
Ephesians 2:19 (nlt) --- So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God's holy people. You are members of God's family.

Here is the end. We need to be friends. We need to be partners in life, in work and in ministry. We need to be seen as precious people. Why? Because people need to Jesus. There is the reason for us being in God's family and more of our series called reVerb.
1 John 4:12 (nlt) --- No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
