show me the love [+] Monday E-Devotion

We are continuing our series called reVerb: amplifying and reflecting the love of God at The Community Fellowship.  I am convinced that if people really felt loved and saw some good pictures of God's love (through our lives) that more and more lives would be changed.  Yesterday we talked about "love" and how God loves us with everything that He is.

It is so awesome to see and come to understand that GOD LOVES US.  If we really believed that, it would change our lives and those people around us in huge, HUGE ways.  Think about it.  Here is how we need to view God's love:

John 15:13 (nlt) --- There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends.

Romans 5:8 (nlt) --- But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

He sent His son to die for us.  The best gift God gave or could give was a gigantic death.  Jesus' death.  Best part, we did not and do not deserve it in any way.

Matthew 7:11 (nlt) --- So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.

Psalm 94:16-19 (The Message) --- ... If God hadn't been there for me, I never would have made it. The minute I said, "I'm slipping, I'm falling," your love, God, took hold and held me fast. When I was upset and beside myself, you calmed me down and cheered me up.

God is for us.  He wants to help us.  I can see myself and my life in that Psalms passage.  How about you?

When we really see who God is and that He loves us more than we know, our lives change, our view of God changes and the way we see and treat others changes.  Fact and good stuff.  It is time that the church and Christians create a little reverb everywhere we go.  It is time to let the world know, especially people who don't go to church and don't care about God, that Christians mean business when it comes to the love of God.

It is not, life is not about keeping up the with Jones or keeping a list of rules or a check list of sorts.  Life is all about living in the love God.  Life is all about Him!  Which is awesome.  We are gonna spend more time this week just thinking about God's love.  I like this...

[+] Please Pray

Ken Smith will be having a medical procedure on Friday, and he has no appetite.  Please pray for Ken and Becky as this is a tough time.  Pray for a marriage that is being ripped apart (ask the father for a miracle healing).  Jabo Brimm is still in CCU.  He is Yvonne Elgin's dad (pray for Bruce Elgin, too, as he is traveling for work this week.  Sharleen Craig, Bobbie Whitlow's aunt, is in our local hospital with a blood and continues to battle cancer.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
