Jesus is my life [+] Monday E-Devotion

Colossians 3:4 (nlt) --- And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.

The Gospel of John is full of these type saying Jesus shared: I am the life, I am the way, I am the door, I am the bread, and so on.  Those statements describe what Jesus does and how He interacts with us, God's children, those who have accepted Him.  Jesus is more than our "fire insurance" or savior from Hell.  He is our life.

Yesterday we finished the series called reVerb at The Community as we talked about how we SHARE LIFE with people every day.  If we do not have life, how can we share it?  If we have a perverted or warped view of life, how can we really understand it?  How can people have life apart from God?  The answer is, to all three questions...it is impossible.

Jesus is life.  Think about it. Jesus is my life.  If I am cut off from Him, I loose and I am dead spiritually.  But I even count on Jesus for my physical life.  He is God.  No more and no less.

Here are some more thoughts from Colosians 3:

SEEK REAL LIFE (the realities of Heaven) verses 1-2

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God's right hand.  Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

GOD HIDES US FROM OUR ENEMY AND THAT IS LOVE, verse 3

For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.

FOUR THINGS TO PUT ON THAT WILL MAKE YOU SHARE LIFE WITH OTHERS

LOVE, verse 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

PEACE, verse 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.

WORD (the word of God or the Bible), verse 16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.

DEEDS (act like your Heavenly Father), verse 17 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

Strange thing about those last four verses.  They all end with being thankful.  Would you think that thankful needs is tied to sharing life with the people you encounter?  Yep!  I do and we need to be sharing life.  Jesus is our life!!!

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
