730 days ago [+] Wednesday E-Devotion

Isaiah 43:19 (nlt) --- For I am about to do something new.  See, I have already begun!  Do you not see it?  I will make a pathway through the wilderness.  I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.
730 days ago, 2 years ago today a group of people gathered in the backyard of a friend and began a journey that has been a real adventure.  That verse was the first thing I said that day and has continued to bring me back to the vision that God placed within my heart and in the hearts of the people who have united under God as The Community Fellowship.

We are not defined by the fact that worship together and fellowship often.  We are defined by the fact that we agree about our calling to demonstrate the love of God to our community.  God has and continues to form us and reform us every day.  He adds to us and brings so many people through our doors to be part of what He is doing.  What I need to be reminded of is that we are not the only ones out here doing what we do.  There are people in our community, our country and around the world seeking to "make the name of Jesus famous" through all we do.

What's next?  What's around the corner?  It is endless.  Events.  Series.  Worship.  Outreach.  Much more.  What's it about?

It's all about people.  We've got to remember something that God brought to our attention 2 years ago ... we are to get the attention of our community and while we have their attention, tell them about Jesus.  God uses all kinds of tools, all kinds of people, all kinds of events and the like to draw people to Himself.  That is what it is all about.

I could go on praising the people who have chosen to be part of The Community, as gifts from God to each other.  But it is not about you.

I could go on and on remembering the history we have made and the good times The Community has experienced.  But it is not about experiences.

It is all about God.

It is all about God calling people to Himself, and we are uniquely placed here in our community to lift up our Savior, to draw attention to His truth.  So, what I want to do as I remind you, readers of E-Devotion and partners in this work, is that God is using The Community to be what He made us to be.  We have shared the following verses in our home prayer meetings the last 2 weeks as we prepare for our 30 Days to Live series that begins this Sunday:

John 3:14-17; 12:32 (nasb) --- As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him…And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself."

That truth, what Jesus does when He is lifted up, fills the truth of the vision God planted in us 2 years ago and what we continue with today.  Why we do what we do and why we are who we are ...

As the old song says "We've only just began", and I add ... You ain't seen nothing yet!

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
