beyond my reach [+] Thursday E-Devotion

In Brand Heath's hit song "Give Me Your Eyes " there are a couple lines that I just cannot get out of my head ...

Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the once forgotten

God wants us to think God's sized, big thoughts.  His desire for us is much more than we can create or work up without some divine intervention, guidance, help and more.  This song says that for me.  You see I want The Community Fellowship to touch lives that are way out of our reach.  To do more than we can do with what we have.

God's eyes see it all.  His resources are endless.  Nothing is too hard, too big or too far from Him.

So, think with me: what are you attempting that will fail unless God's helps?  I pray this pray, the song above, for myself and the people I lead.  God, give me your arms for the broken hearted, the ones that are far beyond my reach.

Strange but true.  We are reaching people we couldn't reach without God doing something.  Love those testimonies and love those connections.  They are so, so good.  I want to challenge the people of The Community and each of you to reach further than you ever have before.  There are people seeking Jesus.

They may in line in front of you at the store.  They may be riding their bike in front of your house.  They may eating across the table from you.  They be calling you on the phone.  So, turn the conversation.  Point to Jesus.  You don't have to do that with a Bible in hand and a memorized sermon or some presentation.  Just ask.  Just talk.  All about Jesus.

Want an awesome story about that?  Read a story from Perry Noble at this blog post.

Ask God to improve your reach for Him, your impact on the people you meet.  Ask Him to open conversations about Him with people seeking Him.

1 Chronicles 4:10 (nasb) --- Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, "Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!" And God granted him what he requested.

Jeremiah 15:19 (nlt) --- This is how the Lord responds:"If you return to me, I will restore youso you can continue to serve me. If you speak good words rather than worthless ones, you will be my spokesman. You must influence them; do not let them influence you!

2 Corinthians 4:15 (nlt) --- All of this is for your benefit. And as God's grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory.

Again, I have to tell you something that Perry Noble said (pray for him as some of his team is leading a conference in Australia this weekend).  His life goal and he leads his church by this call ... "make the name of Jesus famous."

There it is.  Beyond my reach.  But right there in front of us, around us and ready for the taking.  We just need His eyes to see and His heart to feel and His arms to reach.  "God, help me reach people that are just "beyond my reach."

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you

why is it Good Friday?

Holy Week is the time we focus on God and His gift of salvation.  We come to Friday.  The day we remember the cross, Jesus’ death and all God has done for you and me   Why do they call this day “Good Friday” because it doesn’t seems good?   Jesus was treated as a criminal.  He was beaten so much that He could not recognize Him.  His pain would have been too much for you or me to endure.  That is especially from Scripture I’ve read or as in the movie the  Passion of the Christ .   Yet it is a good day.  It is Good Friday because God had our good in His heart.  What Jesus did that day changed our forever direction. Here are some thoughts that come to me:   He is Redemption and Redeemer   He too our Pain and Punishment   He is our Righteousness and Reality   He is the Savior and Life   All of those happened from the cross.  It was meant for the worst lawbreakers.  It was not meant for a Savior who never broke a law.  It was lifted high so that onlookers could see the price Jesus.   Look

Day 8 in Cuba

We have just come off and incredible weekend, and it is day 8 of the mission trip in Cuba.  Thank you to all who have been praying for this trip, the mission team and the impact it will have on those we serve.   Please don’t stop praying. Last week Alex and I served with a mission team in the mountains of southern Cuba.  There were several challenges, but God gave us safety, provision and opportunity to serve some of the sweetest people I have ever met.  No running water… sporadic electricity generated by a small, logo dammed up river, no transportation other than animals, limited food sources and more.  These people love the Lord and sharing their faith with others. Over the weekend we made our way back to Havana.  On Friday our vehicle broke down leaving us on the side of the road for several hours.  We then boarded a bus and rode 14 hours.  We arrived safely and even got some rest. Sunday was so, so good.  We visited two partner churches.  In the morning we were with one church that
