thanksgiving list

But thankfulness isn't easy for a lot of us these days. With the economy spiraling out of control, many people are more worried about their jobs and houses than finding the perfect place-setting for their family gathering. Some of us have had a downright horrible year. Thankfulness can be a very difficult attitude when we've faced a lot of life's trials. Health issues, relationship troubles, family dramas—all of these things can make it hard to put ourselves in a very thankful mood, and Thanksgiving day becomes nothing more than another salute to gastronomical excess. (copied from Relevant Magazine 's newsletter this week)

You might agree.  Holiday's are often blown away with stuff that they are not about.  Look, I'm up for and excited about spending time with family, eating some turkey and watching some Dallas Cowboy football, but that is not what Thanksgiving is all about.

What have you made Thanksgiving?  It is time to make a list.  Make a list of the stuff you thankful for.  Then, go lay that list down in front of God as you meet with Him.  Ask Him to tell you other stuff that needs to be on your thanksgiving list.  Write them down.  Then, repent.  Yep, I said it.  Some of that stuff we aren't thankful for.  By the word, giving lip service or just saying you are thankful is not enough.  Let it dig deep into your heart.

This is the last devotion before Thanksgiving and for this week.  All credit to God, I truly am thankful for the impact of what I get to do and how far it is shared.

Spend some time with God, as I said above.  Maybe use some of the scripture below.

Psalm 118:29 (nlt) --- Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.  (The love of God is so endless...I want to understand that and love Him more.)

Psalm 105:1 (nlt) --- Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.  (I can help the world know by living like Jesus would like and talking about Him.)

Ephesians 5:20 (nlt) --- And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  (Don't leave anything out, Michael.  What am I not really thankful for?)

Philippians 1:3 (nlt) --- Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.  (Who am I thinking about?  tell God I'm thankful for that person, and do it now!)

Revelation 11:17 (nlt) --- And they said, "We give thanks to you, Lord God, the Almighty, the one who is and who always was, for now you have assumed your great power and have begun to reign.  (That means God is BIG.)

Colossians 4:2 (nlt) --- Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving;  (No excuses.  Time with Him makes a difference in me.)

Have a wonderful and God-filled THANKSGIVING!!!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
