how my faith deals with the economy

This past Sunday I shared a message about The Economy & My Faith.  One of the things that I am overwhelmed with (escpecially after 2 conversations this week) is that we have to let the Scripture and God speak to our lives and speak through our lives.  When we don't know the Scriptures, we miss what God has for us.

So I want to share with you some of the verses that hit me as I prepared this message (and a conclusion I have reached at the end).  Read on...

Psalm 46:2 --- Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;

What is it that we fear?  God has called us to trust Him no matter the situation.

Jeremiah 17:7 --- Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD And whose trust is the LORD.

We miss blessings when we don't trust God.  Plus when we fear things that are out of line with what God says we end up in more problems.  In fact, we have opportunities every day that allow us to let in wrong things or push out wrong things.  Make the choice.  No one else makes it for you.

Proverbs 29:25 --- The fear of man brings a snare, But he who trusts in the LORD will be exalted.

Fear doesn't come from God.  You know that.  I know that.  So let's live is!!!

2 Timothy 1:7 --- For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.

The things that we fear will find a different perspective when God is in the equation.  Kind of like the story of the 3 men thrown into a fiery furnace who stood on their faith.  Here is what they said:

Daniel 3:17 --- "If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king.

God does so much more than we give Him credit for.  If you have lost your job or your retirement or you just feel a sense of hopelessness, it is time to turn your faith into something that is stronger than you've seen before.  Trust God for the impossible.  Live your faith outloud.

Ephesians 3:20 --- Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,

Psalm 27:14 --- Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD.

Mark Beeson shared the following scripture in a blog post last week that spoke directly to me.  It is time that we, God's people and His church, led others to have faith when everything else is pointing away from God.  We have the answer the world needs.  As Maraget Feinberg wrote (and I quoted last week) we are to be the first ones running in to help when everyone else is running out.  It is all about Jesus!

Revelation 22:16-17 (contemporary English version) --- I am Jesus! And I am the one who sent my angel to tell all of you these things for the churches. I am David's Great Descendant, and I am also the bright morning star. The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" Everyone who hears this should say, "Come!" If you are thirsty, come! If you want life-giving water, come and take it. It's free!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
