living by fear or by faith

The Warrior  series at The Community Fellowship has been very good and asked some questions that may help us accomplish more in life and to go further than we've gone before.  Our topic this weekend was "the hesitant warrior', and we talked about what keeps us from being who God has made us and called us to be.

One of the huge pieces that keeps us from taking risk and being people of faith is the amount of fear in our lives or how we deal with fear.

An excellent example of this is Peter as he walked on water with Jesus from Matthew 14:

Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. 25 About three o'clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, "It's a ghost!" 27 But Jesus spoke to them at once. "Don't be afraid," he said. "Take courage. I am here!" 28 Then Peter called to him, "Lord, if it's really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water." 29 "Yes, come," Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. "Save me, Lord!" he shouted. 31 Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. "You have so little faith," Jesus said. "Why did you doubt me?"

We don't have much of a problem with Jesus walking on water.  He is God.  He can do anything.  But we have a problem with Peter walking on water.  One of the biggest difference between most of us and Peter is that Peter did get out of the boat.  Yes, he sank when he looked at his situation.  But he took some steps.  He got out of the boat.  He walked on water.

What is keeping us from living by faith or taking some risks in life?  Fear is a big piece.  It could be the fear of failure or of our past experience.  Yet we need to hear some truth from God ...

When our fear of failure exceeds our faith in God, we become hesitate.

At that point we won't live by faith or even really acknowledge that faith has a place in our lives.  Think about it.  What is keeping you from doing what God has called you to do?  By admitting whatever it is, you will lose God to be God and for you to live by faith like never before.

Are you a passive follower of Jesus?  It is time to leave fear behind, stop being passive and begin living out our faith as God intended.

Faith is the only way to live and not have coronary-or seizures in my case...which has been a great learning tool for me, oddly to say. I don't have much fear-which is just odd..must be a blessing from God-or just don't accept all of what I should be fearful of...I like to say it is God's gift for me. Knowing what I would be facing...He knows all we go thru..what we went thru-and what we will go thru-and I am so thankful that even before I found Him-came running for His mercy-that He made me passive on all I should have flipped over. And taught me-when I would stress over my ex and I going thru battles of our wicked past-that He taught me how to deal with it-thru Him. Stress led to more seizures-when I learned that-I began to finally give my bag of any worries to Him..and happiness thru all comes out of that!
He is amazing...has awesome plans..the perfect medication for any fear or anxiety!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
