UNLEASH here we come

Today's devotion is SHOUT OUT to a church we are headed to.  Some devotion thoughts are at the end of the devotion below.

Many of our leaders at The Community Fellowship are leaving this evening headed to Anderson, South Carolina.  That is a small town not much different than ours where God has done a tremendous work at NewSpring Church.  This will be the 3rd time I have been to their UNLEASH conference, and I am taking 20 people from our church with me.  I am excited.  Off the wall bouncing, can't sleep kind of excited!

By the way, you can watch the general sessions streaming live at http://www.newspring.cc/unleash and you won't regret it.

One of the things that amazes me is the people that God has put together that encourage my socks off.  I wanted to spend just a little time pointed you to some of the guys from that church that I have learned loads from.  Plus if you have never heard their pastor speak, you ought to watch one of the sermons or get the podcast.
  • First is their pastor, Perry Noble.  His blog is http://www.perrynoble.com/.  His leadership insight and and scripture depth is awesome.  I have been totally hit from left field as I listen to Perry.  God has used this dude in my life in big ways.  Click here to follow him on twitter.
  • Another dude that will take your life and leadership to the next level is Tony Morgan, chief strategic officer.  Tony's blog is http://www.tonymorganlive.com/.  His most recent book is Killing Coachroaches: and other scattered musings on leadership.  This man lives on the cutting edge and is helping churches and leaders do their best to win people to Christ.  Follow Tony on twitter by clicking here.
  • You have got to meet Joe Sangl, pastor of financial counseling at NewSpring.  His website is http://www.josephsangl.com/, and I have to say that this man has done more to make our marriage and finances better than anyone other than God in the last few years.  In fact, Joe will be at The Community April 25-26 sharing financial principles to help us live as God intends for us to live, debt free and as givers.  Click here to follow Joe on twitter.
  • I have learned much about the world of still and moving graphics from Ken Wilson, NewSpring's creative arts director.  His website and blog are at http://www.avclub.us/.  I stumbled across this creative genius a couple years ago and have been amazed.  Then I began to learn how much Ken loves Jesus and loves his family.  You'll be inspired if creativity is your thing.  Ken's twitter address is right here.
Please pray for our team and our passion to grow.  Thanks for allowing me to share this stuff in the daily devotion.

Now for this morning.  You know that I really love Proverbs and seek to spend time there every day.  Here are a few thoughts that rocked me this morning:

Proverbs 11:14 (nlt) --- Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers.

Proverbs 11:25 (nlt) --- The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

Proverbs 11:28 (nlt) --- Trust in your money and down you go! But the godly flourish like leaves in spring.

Proverbs 11:30 (nlt) --- seeds of good deeds become a tree of life; a wise person wins friends.

Do you see a pattern?  Being a good leader is seen in how you use your money.  This week has brought some good sized challenges our way.  What I have seen and learned is that I need the wisdom of Godly people, those who trust and walk with Jesus.  On top of that, I need to make sure that I personally and we as a church use the resources that God has placed in our hands to do as much good as possible for Him.  Folks, doing that, having advisers and being wise, brings all kinds of refreshment.  Does that make sense?

It is kind of like this trip we are on.  I believe that God has told me that our church has to invest in its leaders.  This conference will invest loads and loads of ideas, wisdom and passion into our lives.  Plus, it is all for His glory.  I am seeing God do some major big things.  Some I can share and some I cannot share yet.  But with that wisdom we are going to touch more and more and MORE people for God.  Know what?  I am excited about that even more!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
