Proverbs 14:31 (nlt) --- Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but helping the poor honors him.
Our mission statement at The Community Fellowship says that we are called and to demonstrate the love of God to our community which has been huge since we began over 2 and 1/2 years ago. We've found some incredible ways to meet the needs of people here in our community and to express the love of God along the way. Things like this past weekend's Car Care Clinic for moms, our monthly clothes closet, homeless feeding ministry (which is brand new), the back2school outreach in August and much more.
What I am learning is that there are some incredible things happening in the lives of the people we work with (both those we serve and those who volunteer). This past week a homeless man accepted Jesus. The stories are awesome and all about life change.
I want to point us in the direction of refining or refocusing or best yet living out our mission statement. Here are just a couple things that I do to help me see our vision and mission:
SEEK GOD. Matthew 7:7 (nlt) --- Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
ACT ON WHAT GOD SAYS. James 4:17 (nlt) --- Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.
That is nothing new or spectacular. But it is truth. Living our our mission statement is something that has to be done. Lest that statement isn't worth anything, not even the paper it is written on. How about some more thoughts?
"...noticing who is on the bottom of everyone's list and putting them at the top of yours. It's giving and serving with no strings attached. And yes, that means serving them even if they will never set foot inside your church. If you will focus all your energies on simply meeting the needs of God's people, you will never need to worry about the growth of your church ... Pray... Listen... Believe... Act. Roll up your sleeves and be hands-on in the work. Don't just write the check and run. Get in close enough to the need that you can touch it, feel it, and smell it. Give. Give stuff away - as much as you can, as often as you can. Whatever you can get your hands on, give it away. Giving stuff away can be pretty interesting... began by identifying the needs in our community ..." (quoted from Dino Rizzo's book Servolution, pages 26-27)
I cannot tell you how excited I am every time that God refreshes my vision and mission. My job is to lead others to do the same as I am living out my mission statement.
