invisible people

"The best exercise is to reach down and lift someone up." -- Zig Ziglar

One of my favorite blogs is INVISIBLE PEOPLE written by a guy named Mark (he also blogs HERE). This next week he will head out on a roadtrip to increase awareness of homelessness in the United States.  Mark knows well about this not only because he is meeting needs and ministering to people where he lives in Los Angeles but because he has been there too.

Have you noticed, as I have, the increasing numbers of people in need?  Much of this is related to the economy in our nation.  There are also many other reasons for this.  Fact is, the church, you and I, have an obligation and a responsibility to do something about it.  Do you agree?

1 John 3:17 (nlt) --- If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God's love be in that person?

The Community Fellowship continues to seek the Lord and to be part of ministering to people who are on the edge of life and living on the street (or close to it).  It is our desire to literally demonstrate the love of God to our community through meeting the needs of people we interact with.  Plus, we are seeing this work in big ways.  But we are not alone.

We have seen several people accept Christ.  That is awesome.  One of the things that I really like and am excited about is this: those we are ministering to are getting involved in ministry.  Some of them are some of our best ministers at this point.

Hebrews 13:16 (nlt) --- And don't forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God

Do we really see those who are in need around us?  Some of the people in need may live in our own house or on our street.  They may work in the same place or be someone we least expect is in need.  Why are they invisible to us?  Several reasons.  Sometimes we aren't looking.  Sometimes we can't see.  Sometimes we don't care.  Does that make sense to you?  It does to me, but this fact tears at my heart.  It also tears at the heart of God.  He has blessed us so we can bless others. What we have is not to make us comfortable.  What we have is to use to let others see God in and through.

Want to influence people for Jesus?  Make those who are invisible to you visible.  Then show up in the lives of people who are looking for help.  It will make a difference.  Let's influence people for Jesus!

"whoever shows up the most in peoples lives is going to win the battle of influence" -- Matthew Barnett

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
