meet Dave & Jean Ohlerking

This weekend my family and our church had the awesome opportunity to spend time with Dave & Jean Ohlerking.  They lead a ministry called Children's Cup International Relief.  I met them through their son, Dan, and through their home church, Healing Place in Baton Rouge, LA.  This organization is feeding 30,000 kids 5 days per week.  That happens at 28 different places called "Care Points".  At those "Care Points" kids are not only fed but they learn about Jesus through Bible clubs, have medical needs met and more.  I challenge you to learn more about what God is doing through Children's Cup and support them as Julie and I are.

Here is a blog post from Dave titled Guide Me with His Eye?.  There is some deep spiritual insight.

This verse used to puzzle me:

Psalm 32:8 (KJV) --- I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

How does His eye guide me? It does as long as I stay in His presence.

For example: Let's walk together through Maputo, Mozambique. I'm familiar with the city. The streets can be risky there. Let's make it harder; we'll blindfold you and I'll never touch you nor will I give you a verbal map of the turns we must make. We'll just talk.

If you stay close enough to me to hear my voice I can guide you with my open eyes.

If you sense a distance growing between us you will know you missed a turn. Run back to the sound of my voice.

It is simply profound to me that God does guide us by His eye as we stay in His presence.

It was a real honor to meet these 2 giants of the faith that love Jesus and are leading thousands of kids to meet Jesus.

SERVolution is happening all over the world.  It is time for all of us to demonstrate God's love in tangible ways to those we encounter.  Are you doing that?  Our church is.  I am.  I don't say that to boast.  I say that to ask you to join us as we make a difference in the world just as the Ohlerkings are.  Remember this ...

Proverbs 21:13 (GWT) ---  Whoever shuts his ear to the cry of the poor will call and not be answered.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
