on HIS shoulders

As I was at the speedway this weekend working with Raceway Ministries a picture struck me that I want to share with you.  It was a little boy sitting on his dad's shoulders.  Thoughts raced through my mind about what I saw and how that fit our relationship from God.

Sitting on his dad's shoulders the boy can rest and not get tired.

Sitting on his dad's shoulders the boy can see further than standing on his own.

Sitting on his dad's shoulders the boy is safe and knows his dad's presence.

That is one awesome picture.  I remember sitting on my dad's shoulders.  All accept for getting tired of carrying a heavy kid, I enjoy putting my little boy on my shoulders.  How much more does God desire to carry us and show us awesome things as well as give us His precense?  That is a great picture.

Then I heard a song by Francesca Battistelli called "Free to Be Me".  Read these words:

At twenty years of age
I'm still looking for a dream
A war is already waged for my destiny
But You've already won the battle
And You've got great plans for me
Though I can't always see, 'cause...

I got a couple dents in my fender
Got a couple rips in my jeans
Try to fit the pieces together
But perfection is my enemy
And on my own I'm so clumsy
But on Your shoulders I can see
I'm free to be me

When I was just a girl
I thought I had it figured out
See my life will turn out right
And I'll make it here somehow
But things don't always come that easy
And sometimes I would doubt, 'cause...

And you're free to be you

Sometimes I believe
That I can do anything
Yet other times I think
I've got nothing good to bring

But You look at my heart and you tell me
That I've got all You seek
And it's easy to believe, even though...

And you're free to be you

Our God, our heavenly Father wants us to have real life.  He wants us to enjoy life.  So much so that He is willing to carry us.  He will lift us to see things we can't otherwise see.  He will give us peace when nothing else will give us peace.  How awesome is that?

It is time to climb up on God's shoulders, to enjoy the view, to know His peace and to simply be with our Father that loves us more than we will ever know.  Now that is an awesome picture.

John 10:10 (NLT) --- The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

1 John 3:1 (NLT) --- See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don't recognize that we are God's children because they don't know him.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
