deal with sex

I came arose this question late Sunday evening:

Husbands, are you pursuing your wife like you did "back then"?  When's last time you went out of your way to communicate how valuable she is to you?

That is a powerful question.  After the message I preached Sunday morning, I can see how God is working in my heart.  Last week I examined the truth how we deal with passion.  Today I preached on sex, and it may have been the hardest sermon that I have ever preached.

What amazed me most is the response and the graciousness of our people at The Community.  When our men and our couples get honest with God and with each other, we will see huge things happen.  We will find victory that only God can give.  Does that happen for you?  Far too often we are seeing our lives empty because we would rather settle for less than success and even pursue our pleasure rather the things of God.  Ouch!

Here are some of the things I shared today:

Proverbs 5:16-19 (NASB) --- Drink water from your own cistern And fresh water from your own well. Should your springs be dispersed abroad, Streams of water in the streets? Let them be yours alone And not for strangers with you.  Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice in the wife of your youth.  As a loving hind and a graceful doe, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; Be exhilarated always with her love.

God created sex.  He said this is good.  But we have pushed this issue out of our churches and out of homes so that our kids learn about sex from friends and in the locker room.  And why?  It is because we are weak and don't believe what God says.  We have got to gain our kids back by being honest with them.  It is time to hear from God on this issue and stand on what he says.

I read from Song of Solomon, and our people were amazed at what was there (heck, I am blushing as I read it).  This is a subject God cares about and he created for us to enjoy in the right context.  Check out Song of Solomon.  God intends sex for a married man and women and to celebrate the relationship he has given them.  Yet many couples don't find success and victory in this area again because we don't claim what God says.  One preacher said (and I quote) "no pets, no other people, no porn; everything else is fair game."

If you are interested in reading / studying more about a Christian view of sex, check out what Mark Driscoll from Mars Hill Church shared HERE.

I will close for now.  But I have to give you the same challenge that I shared with our church family.  It is time to live in victory, to celebrate our marriages and to be who God created us to be.  Here is the place to start:

Proverbs 4:23 (NLT) --- Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

That's it.  But I'd like to hear what you have to say on this issue.  You can comment on my blog HERE or reply to this email.  My prayer is that we will see God restore relationships and break the bondage that many people are in today.  Your turn...

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
