small choices, big difference [+] Thursday E-Devotion

Merry Christmas from my family to yours.

Have you noticed that some of the smallest choices you have made brought the biggest differences in your life?  It is true.  We have heard stories, we have watched things happen and God is in total control.  Are we following Jesus?  The little choices we make in following Jesus will make a big difference in our lives and in the lives of others.

Luke 1:38 (NIV) --- "I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.

Matthew 1:24 (NIV) --- When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.

That's the story of Mary and Joseph, the earthly parents of Jesus.  Because both chose to follow what God said, the world has been and continues to be changed.  Small choices have made a big difference.

Not many months ago my wife and I talked about supporting a new ministry that was just introduced to me.  Jerry Miner and I made a connection and God began to speak to my heart about the work he is involved in.  Since that time I have seen God use them to touch many lives.  Our commitment is small and is on going.  We are convinced it will make a big difference.  Go to THIS SITE and watch the video.  A simple challenge.  A small choice and sacrifice.  A big difference will be made.

Jesus came to earth to make a huge difference that we could not make on our own.  Christmas is the day that the world seems to stand still, and some people have no clue why that is.  Jesus is the reason.  The world stops.  The people of God must speak up.  Share Jesus.  Show His love.  His love about saving the world not as its judge.

John 3:17 (NLT) --- God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.

May your Christmas celebration of Jesus' birthday go way beyond what you can do on your own.  Make a small choice or two and watch God use those choices to make a big difference around you.

[+] Please Pray

Keep Joan Norman and her family in your prayers as she is back in the hospital with an infection.  We Harris, Trey's dad, asks us to pray for his neighbor, Earlene Humphrey, who is very sick and her daughter Cara.  Our friend Teri Shumate has asked us to pray for Mark who lost his job and is battling depression.  Brenda Turner, a friend of Angie Burnette's, lost her home in a fire this week and has many needs.  Wayne Dickerson continues his battle with cancer.  Remember those who have lost loved ones and struggled greatly in 2009.  Touch someone this Christmas.  It is Jesus' birthday and a great time to share His love with others.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
