how to increase your dreams

Ever noticed that there are times you have vivid dreams that you remember and other times you don't dream or just don't remember them?  There is something that happens in us when we dream.

The same is true when we begin to have God dreams.  Something happens so that our vision or desire or dreams from God grow and grow.  I believe that the key to those kind of dreams is our connection to God.  It is our intimacy with God.  It is our desire for Him, directly tied to the time we spend with Him.

Matthew 6:33 (the Message) --- Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

When people are not tied to the happenings around them alone, they will begin to dream more.  Is our reality only what is around us?  There is more to life and to our vision that what we can see right here.  I want more.  How about you?

What keeps us from Dreaming dreams OR from following God?  This past Sunday I challenged our church family to increase their God given dreams by doing four things.

The way to INCREASE your GOD DREAMS, desire to do good (see Matthew 6:1-4).    Help others for the right reason.  Put God first.  Don't give or do just to look good to others

The way to INCREASE your GOD DREAMS, desire to connect with God  (see Matthew 6:5-18).  Jesus talked about praying and fasting for the right reasons.  Our time with God is directly relating to how many or how few God dreams we will have.

Matthew 6:6 (the Message) --- "Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.

Focusing on God leads us to self-discipline which will in turn teach us to tie ourselves closer to Him and doing what God asks us to do.  Plus our desire won't be for our own popularity or please.

Matthew 6:17 (the Message) --- If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face.

I shared earlier this week a challenge of 3 Commitments for Dreams Come True series.  Join us in (1) 20 minutes a day in prayer, (2) fast 1 meal per week and (3) fast from 1 thing that consumes you 1 day a week.  Taking that challenge will allow us to focus on God.

The way to INCREASE your GOD DREAMS, desire to use what I have (see Matthew 6:19-23).  All that we have as well as the light that God put within in us ought to lead us to use it all and share it all so others will see God.

Matthew 6:21 (the Message) --- It's obvious, isn't it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.

Matthew 6:22-23 (NLT) --- "Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. 23 But when your eye is bad, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!

The way to INCREASE your GOD DREAMS, desire to worship God (see Matthew 6:24-34).  Answer these questions: who do I worship, who do I trust, who do I seek, and who is it all about?  We will seek the things that will lead others to see God when we focus on Him.

Matthew 6:33 (NASB) --- But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

It is at that point that we will have BIGGER Dreams because we have been with God.  People see our GREAT GOD.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
