it's holy week, death & life

Matthew 28:6 (NASB) --- He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.

What was it like when those ladies came to Jesus' grave that first Easter Sunday morning?  This man changed their lives.  His body was gone.  Now it was time to remember ... remember why Jesus came to earth.  He came to die.

1 Peter 3:18 (NLT) --- Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.

His death was not something that surprised Jesus or His father.  His death was a choice He made to help people know the peace of God.  His death brings life to all who will come to Him.  His death was cruel on a cross meant for criminals and the worst of society and not for the son of God.  But it was on that cross that our sin and humanity found it's right place, covered by God for eternity.  We find life when we understand Jesus' death.

Proverbs 11:19 (NLT) --- Godly people find life; evil people find death.

Death and life are two huge facets of life.  When we deal in death and stay there, life is taken from us.  When we focus on death, we don't deal much with life or even deal with life.  Because Jesus died for us and 3 days later came back to life, we can really live.  We can live now and we can live with God for eternity.  His death brings our life!

Romans 6:23 (NLT) --- For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Life and death.  Death and life.  Let the truth of God change both for you.

"That's Why We Praise Him" is one of my favorite worship tunes, and here is why:

He came to live, live a perfect life. He came to be the living Word of light. He came to die, so we'd be reconciled. He came to rise to show His power and might
And that's why we praise Him, that's why we sing. That's why we offer Him our everything. That's why we bow down and worship this King. 'Cause He gave His everything

John 10:10 (NLT) --- The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

Let Easter and the resurrection come alive for you today and this weekend.  Jesus came to die and is now alive.  We come face to face with death because of sin.  But we come face to face with life when we allow Jesus' life to be ours.  It's holy week.  Death and life.  Let Jesus' death press you into really living life, for now and for ever!

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
