I am not God

I am not God.  You are shocked I know first that I am admitting that or maybe some of you thought ... no way.  But what I can say and admit is there are times that I act like I am God.  Most of us do.  And that is wrong.

Are we trusting in ourselves, or our ability or strength or intelligence? Admitting that we are not God means that we allow God to work in and through our lives.  It also means that we expect more and more of God and watch Him do incredible things we cannot do without Him.

Do you see what I mean?  Last week as I was praying (and I have already alluded to this earlier this week) God said one of the things that is standing in the way of us as a church and me as a leader is me.  Do you hear that?  I am in the way.  Listen up:

Proverbs 3:5 (NLT) --- Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

Are my thoughts what I am sharing or am I sharing God's thoughts?  Do I rely on what I call my vision or the vision that God has placed on my life and in His church?

Honest, I want His best, and that means I must lean on Him.  The first step to seeing God work is letting God be God.  Get out of His way.

Galatians 2:20 (NLT) --- My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

How often do we let our "old self" get up out of the grave and lead us?  It is often if we are honest.  Yet the closer we get to God, the more time we spend with Him, the greater the opportunity for God to speak and for God to work.  I want that.  No, I long for and am desperate for that.  Are you?

My prayers this week have added the dimension of asking God to move me out of the way when I am in the way.  Pray like that.  God move me out of the way when I am in the way of you working and being seen.

Why?  Because life and church and family and purpose and helping others is all about Jesus.  Nothing more and nothing less.  Therefore, I am not God.  I move out of the way by the grace and help of God.

Ephesians 3:20 (NLT) --- Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
