One of the most powerful messages I heard last week was from Tommy Barnett, pastor of Phoenix First AG and Matthew Barnett's father (my computer battery was dead so I didn't blog about his message; so I will share it today). He talked about the fact that we all have needs. But there are times when our complacency and mediocrity is tied to the fact that we don't think we have any needs.
We must admit that we have needs. We really do. And when we realize we have needs, we will see God in and around our lives.
We need more of the right kind of stuff. Take away the need and we will not need the supply God can give. You see, there is no lack of supply or money or the resources we and others have need of. In fact, the bigger the need, the bigger the supply.
Philippians 4:19 (NASB) --- And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
God knows our needs better than we do. Inside everyone of us is something that God placed there. It is something bigger than us to do and something that will be a miracle only God can do. God will put us with people who have the same heart and calling we have as we ask Him to lead us. That is a huge part of the supply God can and will give.
Matthew 6:8 (NLT) --- Don't be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!
Realize what your need is. Maybe it will be found in where your heart is or where your pain is. Honestly, a needless life is an unproductive and empty life. Not easy to understand, yet the blessing of God comes when we realize and confess our need.
What must we do? We need to find needs and meet them. Often that will remind us of our own need. If we begin to reach people that no one wants, we will start seeing the people that everyone wants. There are times when you have to create a need because of God's call on your heart. Another huge way to look at that is that when we give out of our own need and pain, God will give back to us. He is faithful. He desires us to be faithful. Plus God will supply our needs. Believe that and begin to see God work.
2 Corinthians 9:11 (NLT) --- Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.
I want to close by sharing from my heart and personally. What God has called my and our church to do it huge. It is bigger than me. It cannot be done on my own or without God's help. As I was praying last Thursday evening, I heard God speak to my heart. As it concerns our desire for a homeless shelter and more ministry to those hurting through a Dream center here, I believe we need to see that God is bigger than we can imagine. He can do more than we can do. Much of the time my prayers are too small. I must pray bigger and expect God to work. You see, we have a need, and we are asking God to meet that need. That is the need of hurting people here in our community and beyond.
You have a need. Let God meet your need today.
