unstoppable hope

We kicked off our One Prayer series yesterday at The Community as I shared a message titled "UNSTOPPABLE HOPE".  Before I share anything else with you ... if you know me, you know that our church is seeking to offer hope to people who have little or none.  We are literally 'hope-brokers' by sharing the love of God and the life changing truth of Jesus.

The one thing that keeps us from having hope and being able to believe God .... (are you ready for this?) ... is ourselves.  Yep.  We often limit God or put limits on what God can or cannot do.  If we take it a little deeper and get honest, we will admit that we keep hearing and doing the same things over and over again spiritually.  There is a reason for that.  It is time to grow up.  It is time we who say we trust Jesus really trust Him and spend the time with Him that we know will change our lives.  Do you agree?

Hebrews 6:1
(NLT) --- So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don't need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God.

For way too long we have not been able to share hope with other people because we have not had hope for ourselves.  We are like what James 1:6 talks about "blown and tossed by the wind" by the struggles in our lives and in our faith.  Yet when Jesus gets our attention and helps us grow, we will not be tossed around by the situations that come up in our lives.  Instead we will stand strong and firm believing God.

What happens when we believe God and focus on Him?  We have hope.  That hope holds us tight no matter what because Jesus said he would always be with us.

Hebrews 6:19 (NASB) --- This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil,

This hope changes our lives.  This hope holds us tight.  This hope lets us be confident and strong in all situations.  Just like a huge ship that is held in place when it's anchor is firmly in place, our lives are held by our anchor who is Jesus.

When we hope in God, we find unstoppable hope.  Nothing can stop God and nothing can stop our hope in God.  When we hope in God, there are some things that are just true.  Take them to the bank. Believe them.  Tell others.  Live like it is true since it is true.

Hebrews 6:18 (NLT) --- So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.

Take refuge in God.  Our God, the only God never changes, and He cannot lie.  He promises hope.  He delivers hope.

No one but God can give us unstoppable hope!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
