God at work in South Dakota

A note from Tuesday. Read on....
I am sitting in the area where we eat at Cross Pointe Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  Our students from The Community Fellowship have joined with about 150 other students to work with new churches in this area.  What is most exciting to be is to watch what God is doing and what others are experiencing God do.  Here are just a few notes:

- watching a teen guy pray to asking Jesus in his heart last night at our block party.

- one of our leaders, our youth leader's husband, walked in the room last night and was so excited as he told me about a project he was going to take care of ... rebuilding a swing set in a mobile home community where lots of the hispanic people like that 1/2 our team is working with this week.

- one of our teenager girls fell in love yesterday with this precious little girl who wouldn't let her go (talked to our teen about how she is praying for this little girl; wow)

- our team has worked hard, grumbled little and kept at it each day; the team I lead along with another of our adults has hung door hangers for the block party the last 2 days which means walking miles and doing it pretty quick (we are already seeing results and is so cool)

- heard a story about the Church at the Warehouse & the answer center where lots of needs are met for hurting people, and the stories of people get help with addiction and finding Jesus are awesome (speaks to me where we are at The Community now and in the future)

The rest of the week, 3 more days, has so much in store for us.  Our faith is being strength as we see and encounter a new area, beautiful scenery and people who are a little different than what we are used to.  No, there is not a lot of roughing it going on, but I am so proud of our team who are learning to serve in sweet ways!

Here are some thoughts running through my head as I hear from God and preparing to talk about UNSTOPPABLE FAITH this weekend at our church:

Hebrews 11:1 NASB
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

1 Corinthians 9:22 NASB
To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some.

Ephesians 1:18 NASB
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

Psalm 37:3 NASB
Trust in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.

James 2:26 NASB
For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

I pray that God will fill us with faith that is UNSTOPPABLE as we live our faith out loud for others to see!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
