the power of ONE

As we arrived at our mission site in Flatwoods, WV yesterday we heard the story about a young girl who was visiting her grandmother because her mom had to have surgery.  That girl came to Bible school on Monday night and asked Jesus into her heart!!!  God is good.

My phone rang yesterday afternoon and it was Joseph Dayamba.  He wanted to thank me and my wife for our support and prayers.  He runs a school in Burkina Faso, Africa where many Muslim children are hearing the truth about Jesus and some are accepting Jesus as their savior.  His stories will make you stop and praise God.

One of our teen guys wanted to share the devotion for our mission team last night, and the overflow was so good.  Our team had a great discussion about jealousy, being satisfied with what we have and seeing the need that those around us are in.  Cody did an excellent job sharing his heart and from his new Bible.

It was an honor to spend time with our friend Rodney Jamison who is the pastor of Crossroads Baptist Chapel in Burnsville, WV.  We served last year at his church and in his town.  Our friendship and partnership has now lasted more than a year and will continue.  In our time together we heard what God is dong and saw for ourselves the fruit of our labor and his as well as the goodness of God.

Last, what an honor to spend time with Ace Sligar and Little River Baptist Chapel this week here in Flatwoods, WV.  His church is truly on the edge of breakthrough as they are serving people in their community.  We were able to help prepare their building to do more.  We met some incredible people here and even another team serving from First Baptist in Liberty, SC.  Pray for Ace and Little River.  We will be hearing more of what God is doing here.

It is truly the power of ONE.  One person died for us and has infused us with all we need for life and to succeed.  That one person is Jesus.  Then there is the power of one meaning you and me.  We can and must make a difference wherever we are.  Just by following Jesus, speaking us when God says, giving what we have and letting God work we will see lives changed.

Try it.  Thank God for who he is in our lives ... the power of ONE ... and be who God made you to be ... the power of ONE ... then realize as you serve with and love others that God is making us a tight family and making us stronger together so our influence will go further as .... the power of ONE.

Ephesians 5:2 (NLT) --- Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

Colossians 1:6 (NLT) --- This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as itchanged your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God's wonderful grace.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
