birth of a dream

Proverbs 19:17 (NLT)
If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord—and he will repay you!

For sometime our church family has known that God was going to use us to open a homeless shelter here in our community.  We have sought God, prayed and kept our eyes open.  We have seen need after need arise in front of us, and our hearts have been heavy.

I have to tell you today that I have seen the birth of a dream.  Right in front of me today God opened up and blessed us.  He gave us the use of 2 houses in Martinsville.  This has been our prayer, and God did it right.

I have been meeting with a distinguished elderly lady who has a heart to minister to ex-offenders.  Not long ago she shared with some of our team about 2 houses she has and wants to use to serve men who are in need.  We began praying then.  Earlier this week I asked one of our volunteer to call this lady and ask to have lunch with her today.  We did and God moved.

One of the houses is an old boarding house with many bedrooms.  The other house is a duplex.  Neither is livable today, yet God has plans and he has people around us ready to go to work.

God put in my heart His plan and the vision to open The Community Dream Center which includes helping people who are homeless and in transition.  Well, in our hands today are the tools to begin working this.  Literally, it is the birth of a dream that God planted in my heart.

Can you tell that I am excited?  No doubt more people who are hopeless are going to find home, people who are hungry are going to be fed, people who are broken are going to be rebuilt and people are homeless are going to have a place to stay.  Why?  It is all because God has a plan to build people's dreams as they come into contact with Jesus.

God is good ... all the time.

Matthew 25:35 (NASB)
'For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;

Amen!! That was a very inspirational story. I do agree God does move & we should never lose sight of the things he promises us. When all seems out the window he is only preparing the plan & our hearts for the blessing! You're story has given me a little more hope for the things yet to come! Praise be to Him!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
