it takes all of us

These are incredible days.  Inside all of the distractions that come in life, God is always working.  We are seeing that in vivid color.  When God opens up and blesses, you never know the sweetness that will follow.

Psalm 34:8 (NLT)
Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

Those blessings and the goodness of God make life so good.  I have been reading Nehemiah, and in chapter 3 the list is given for many of the workers on the wall.  Take a look:

3 The Fish Gate was built by the sons of Hassenaah. They laid the beams, set up its doors, and installed its bolts and bars.
8 Next was Uzziel son of Harhaiah, a goldsmith by trade, who also worked on the wall. Beyond him was Hananiah, a manufacturer of perfumes.
17 Next to him, repairs were made by a group of Levites working under the supervision of Rehum son of Bani. Then came Hashabiah, the leader of half the district of Keilah, who supervised the building of the wall on behalf of his own district.
24 Next was Binnui son of Henadad, who rebuilt another section of the wall from Azariah's house to the angle and the corner.

They weren't all builders.  Some were rich.  Some were poor.  Yet everyone took part in rebuilding the wall.  It is amazing to read through the list.  Seeing that some worked in front of their homes while others took another distinct place to work, the wall was completed in record time of 52 days (see 6:15).  Everyone was part of the plan, an important part.

I look around us at The Community now as we push toward our Dream Center and housing homeless people and offering transitional housing it is true that everyone will have a part.  It is NOT just about our church.  It is about the community coming together.  It will take lots of people and churches and organizations working together to see lives rebuild by Jesus.  We will have to rebuild some homes to use, but what God has called us to do is rebuild lives.

When the world looks on and see what God does through us working together, they will be amazed and even be drawn closer to God.  It takes all of us.  Are you willing to do your part?

Nehemiah 6:16 (NLT)
When our enemies and the surrounding nations heard about it, they were frightened and humiliated. They realized this work had been done with the help of our God.

I can't wait to see what God does next!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
