Jesus conversations

I want to close out this week's devotions by sharing with you some of the thoughts that I have been wrestling with.  We are part of Raceway Ministries work at the Martinsville Speedway this weekend which is one of my favorite things to do.  Mostly that is because of the conversations we get to have with people about Jesus.

Jesus conversations is where we are able to point people to something bigger, better, stronger and more sustaining than anything else in world.  Yet I fear that in me and maybe inside you we are not having enough Jesus conversations in our lives.  In our hearts.  With ourselves.  Even with God.

Are we having those conversations?  They will change our lives.  Here are some I am having:

Colossians 3:2ā€ØNASB

Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

John 12:32ā€ØNLT

And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.

"whoever shows up the most in peoples lives is going to win the battle of influence" -- Matthew Barnett

"when God can trust you with influence He will trust you with blessing" -- Matthew Barnett

We ought not to be weary of doing little things for the love of God, who regards not the greatness of the work, but the love with which it is performed. -- Brother Lawrence

Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat. -- Mother Teresa

Intense love does not measure, it just gives. -- Mother Teresa

As Jesus wept over Jerusalem because it did not know the things that lead to peace, Jesus must be weeping over America today. -- Shane Claiborne

When the poor meet the rich, riches will have no meaning. And when the rich meet the poor, we will see poverty come to an end. -- Shane Claiborne

Romans 5:5ā€ØNLT

And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

Matthew 20:28ā€ØNLT

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.

I pray that our Jesus conversations will lead people to have lives transformed by God.  Our lives changed first and then others.  But it begins with starting the conversation.  Get alone and have a conversation.  Then talk to someone else.  Lets have some Jesus conversations!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciplesā€™ feet, drying them with the towel he had around himā€¦ 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each otherā€™s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
